KOHI MERO - film review

KOHI MERO - film review
Invitee went  here and there- premiere day- I was fortunate enough to get a seat. After counting down the days since knowing of the release date, I squirmed in my seat trying to get in the best position possible to enjoy it. And I must say from the outset, I was not disappointed .

EXPECTATIONS - Sure , they are bound to be when a director of Alok Nembang and a producer of Music dot com calibre are joining hands . RESULT- The magic of this combo work big time.

There were many layers to this story and twists in it, which you couldn't have imagined. Just when I thought I figured things out, BHROOM, it changed and the plot thickened. I stayed riveted to my seat throughout the entire time. It is a very  film good chick-flick , which has merits to hold its  audience time and patience . It tugs very strongly at your heartstrings and doesn't let go, though minor hiccups spoil the flow.  'Kohi Mero' is a roller coaster ride of emotions for sure.

Ashna, Prayash and  Abhi  are best of friends . For Prayash, Ashna is his love, obsession andeverything . For Ashna , Prayash is just a friend of thick and thin times ; and Abhi is her special 'Kohi' .

Abhi is mischievous and misunderstod shades of both Ashna and prayash. His friendship with Ashna grows into love but he hides it just coz Prayash comes first to the realization. So Abhi decides to play match maker to this love angle of Prayash and Ashna. But Ashna has another thought of her special one in Abhi. Will Ashna get her  special 'KOHI' ? Will Prayash pave the way to Abhi ? You should get a ticket to find it all.

Kohi Mero has two sides to this story, the first half had me laughing and feeling very nice about everything. The second half  looses its pace sometimes however, this is the moment where the laughter turns into pains, back to laughter, then to pains once again. Second half also brings another track of love of Dibya (Jharna Bajracharya) but it's half baked.  Though having  reels in mind, you could have done some extra workout for Dibya's track .

The climax is  very filmi, but completely justified .

You'll take this characters & situations at your home when the film ends.

Music is the highlights of this film.  While Suresh rai (Samaya le, Kohi Mero), Suresh Adhikari (Dherai din dekhi, Aakha Aakha, Parkha na parkha)  and Basanta Sapkota (Sabda ma ) have delivered their finest , choreography (ALOK NEMBANG)  also deserves a mention. It's easily one of the finest choreographed  Nepali film. Background score by Rajan Ishaan gels with the narrative.

Cinematography [Raju Bickram Thapa] is splendidly superb. To state that the film is a visual treat wouldn't be doing justice to the output on screen. The exteriors and interiors both are lensed to the T. Costumes [Nuzat Qazi ] is worthy of praise.

Editing (subodh Shrestha / Prakash Tuladar) is not up to the mark. Guys you could have razor-polished the dumb second half , and also the technique of constant flashbacks look confusing at times .

Prawin Adhikari (script) springs a surprise. Though some flaws, i can bet he is someone to watch for. His scripting and the detailing of  light to emotional  sequences prove that Nepali cinema has writers of calibre. Dialogues are excellent. Prawin keep the writing more sharp, more polished.

Alok Nembang shows a 180degree maturities to this venture. He shows what he is capable of. It's his technically best tribute to Nepali film scenario; for he has painted some great moments in this 2 hr something reel.

1.Watch out Sanchita's denial scene when Subash proposed him in Jomsong.
2.Sleeply Sanchita stumbles when she hears Aryan never misses her.
3.Jharna Bajracharya confrontation at the end.
But there are many pointers Alok could have easily worked  .

KOHI MERO is a Aryan Sigdel's film all the way. The actor delivers yet another bravura performance that he can be proud of, when he looks back in life. The role gives him immense scope to exhibit a gamut of emotions and the actor carries not just his role, but the entire film on his firm shoulders.

Sanchita Luitel looks hot in Bikini tops, and has acted with very warm conviction. This film should consolidate her status as an actress of substance. Subash Thapa is Fantastic. The actor manages to prove his mettle despite being  in the crowds of seniors like Aryan,Sanchita,Jharna. His acting is very measured. Those who seek Filmi loud acting , Subash is a sorry for them. He gives the impression of a sleepy tiger. Beaware of this wild beast in this jungle.

Jharna Bajracharya , in a brief role, does her part with an ease. She deserves more well written roles , with meats in it.

Tripti Nadkar is wasted in a cameo. Radha Lamsal 'Bhabu' excels her role. Dinesh Sharma in a villainous role ,is very torturous.
On the whole KOHI MERO has all merits to go strong at the ticket window. Aryan and Alok's presence is sure for a big opening weekend. Kohi Mero is a film you don't want to miss. Go ,get your ticket right now. This movie is one you won't soon forget.
3.5/5 STARS
